Dispute a card transaction
Would you like to dispute a card transaction? Here's how.
You can dispute card transactions if the merchant or service provider has failed to fulfil their obligations, or if you identify unfamiliar or unauthorised transactions on your card. If your dispute relates to a purchase, you should first contact the merchant or supplier directly. If the issue is not resolved, you can then raise a dispute with us.
Before submitting a dispute
- You have used a Handelsbanken credit or debit card
- You have waited a few days to allow all transactions to be fully processed and posted to your account.You have attempted to resolve the matter directly with the merchant or service provider
- You have a valid claim (see examples below)
- You have attempted to resolve the matter directly with the merchant or service provider
You may get your money back if
- You have noticed transactions on your card that you do not recognise
- You have not received the goods or services you paid for
- You received the wrong goods or services
- You have been charged the wrong amount
- The merchant has gone bankrupt
Supporting documentation required
- Evidence that you have attempted to resolve the matter with the merchant or supplier
- A screenshot or other supporting evidence of any suspected fraud attempt
- Confirmation from the police that the incident has been reported
- A detailed description of the events and circumstances
How to submit a dispute

1. Log in
You will need BankID to log in to the dispute service. This ensures that your personal and card details are handled securely and confidentially. -

2. Dispute declaration
If you do not have BankID, you can submit a written declaration and explanation on paper. Send us an email requesting a dispute claim form. -

3. One card at a time
You can only dispute transactions linked to one card at a time. If you wish to dispute transactions linked to multiple cards, you must submit a separate dispute for each card number.

Terms and conditions
Your rights when making a dispute claim are governed by the rules of Mastercard and Visa, as well as the terms and conditions applicable to your card.
Time limits
If you wish to raise a dispute with the bank concerning a claim against a merchant or service provider, Handelsbanken must be notified at the earliest reasonable opportunity, in accordance with Section 2-7 of the Norwegian Financial Contracts Act and the terms and conditions of your card.
If you wish to raise a dispute with the bank regarding an unauthorised or incorrectly executed payment transaction, Handelsbanken must be notified without undue delay after you become aware that the transaction may be corrected, and no later than 13 months from the date of payment, in accordance with Section 4-24 of the Norwegian Financial Contracts Act and the terms and conditions of your card.
